Community Service Scholarship Available to High School Students

  • January 27, 2012

The Rotary Club of Winchester is pleased to announce that applications for the 2012 scholarships are now available.

Rotary is an international charitable organization comprised of 1.2 million professional and business leaders, united worldwide in 164 countries, whose goals are to provide humanitarian service, promote high ethical standards and build goodwill and peace in the world.

Through the Winchester Rotary Charitable Fund the local Rotary Club will be awarding one or more scholarships. The scholarship funding is due in large part to donations honoring  former Winchester Rotarians, Charles C. Parkhurst and Harry E. Chefalo.

Also, this year we are proud to have  a new Scholarship Fund set up in the name of John and Mary Murphy and with this new fund we will  have up to  $10,000 dollars to give away in scholarships. These monies will be given to student(s) who exemplify the Rotary motto  “Service Above Self” in performing Community Service.

To be eligible a student must be a high school senior, a resident of Winchester, and graduating in 2012 from a public, private, parochial or vocational/ technical high school. The student must also be accepted to an accredited institution of higher learning or an accredited technical/vocational school training program. Applicants must be able to demonstrate active participation in community service. This service can be local, regional and/or international in scope.

Applications may be obtained and downloaded from the Rotary Club’s web site, www.WinchesterRotary.org.   If additional information is needed please contact Lou Gentile, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee at 781-729-2130.
