Lewis Receives Endorsement of Environmental Advocates in Re-Election Bid

  • September 21, 2010

State Representative Jason Lewis is proud to receive the support of leading environmental groups, including the Sierra Club, Clean Water Action and the Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters, who have all endorsed his bid for re-election on November 2.

Rep. Lewis has been a strong advocate for clean and renewable energy to create new green jobs, strengthen our national security, and preserve our environment.

"The Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters (MLEV) is proud to announce its endorsement of Representative Jason Lewis for reelection in the 31st Middlesex," said Lora Wondolowski, MLEV's Executive Director.  "Jason has been an extraordinary leader on environmental issues during his tenure at the State House, where he has worked diligently to protect our families from toxic chemicals and to push for an updated bottle bill.  He has also shown a strong dedication to local environmentalism.  We look forward to continuing to work for a strong environmental agenda with Representative Lewis during the upcoming session."

Rep. Lewis is a co-sponsor of several important environmental bills, including An Act to Improve Recycling Rates in the Commonwealth (which would update the 30 year old bottle bill), An Act for a Competitive Economy Through Safer Alternatives to Toxic Chemicals (which would help manufacturers to phase out toxic chemicals where feasible alternatives exist), and An Act to Sustain Community Preservation (which would help advance efforts in affordable housing, open space preservation, active outdoor recreation, and historic preservation).

Rep. Lewis is very active in local community efforts to encourage energy conservation and use of renewable energy, including working with local and state officials to secure funding for installation of solar panels on municipal buildings.

He has also been a vocal champion for the Tri-Community Bikeway project, a planned 6 mile bikeway and greenway connecting Stoneham, Winchester, and Woburn.  This project achieved a significant milestone earlier this year when it reached the 25% Design Approval stage.

"Clean Water Action is proud to endorse Rep. Jason Lewis for re-election and look forward to continue working with him to protect our environment and our health in Massachusetts," said Jeff Knudsen, Political Director of Clean Water Action.
