Market Goers Enjoy Roast Corn Tradition

Sweet corn season has come to a close and the Winchester Farmers Market marked the change last Saturday with its traditional corn roast. Vendor Ed Silvia provided a bushel and market goers stopping by the market manager’s tent were treated with delicious ears of sweet corn freshly roasted over a charcoal grill.

Market customers always find a wide range of fresh fruits and vegetables at the E.L. Silvia produce stand. Ed Silvia and his wife, Jane, farm 45 acres in Dighton and Somerset that includes the family farm he grew up on. They grow early tomatoes and eggplant in two greenhouses, as well as traditional field-grown crops and tree fruit such as peaches and plums.

Winchester Farmers Market continues on the town common through the end of October. Look for the indoor Winchester Holiday Farmers Market at the Parish of the Epiphany Church on Church Street on November 17.
