Car Crash at Lane Funeral Home

Damage to building and stone wall on property.

On Monday morning a driver collided into a mailbox in front of 778 Main St. and continued to drive until his vehicle struck the northeast corner of Lane’s Funeral Home. The driver was taken to the hospital to be checked out after initially declining any further medical assessment than what paramedics provided.

The driver seemed confused and told the police he “did not know what happened, all of a sudden (he) was an accident,” Officer Steven Fields said in his report. He was then taken to the hospital.

The mailbox was torn out of the ground and the car hit a three-foot high stonewall, as well as the side of the building before coming to a stop. The stone wall took the brunt of the impact, while Lane’s Funeral Home sustained slight but visible damage. Mal’s Towing responded to remove the car, which had heavy damage to the front and undercarriage. The driver has not been charged with any crime.
