5. On this day in 1807, former U.S. vice president Aaron Burr is acquitted of a supposed plot to annex parts of the Louisiana and Spanish territory in Mexico. Burr would go on to find more infamy in his life when he killed Alexander Hamilton in a “duel of honor.”
