The Winchester Foundation for Educational Excellence (WFEE) held its Eighth annual Trivia Bee Wednesday night. Founded in 1992, the WFEE is a non-profit organization whose goal is to support innovation and excellence in Winchester Public Schools.
The McCall Parent's Association team (Scott Batty, Malini Dutta and Philip George) won this year's trophy. And the Ambrose team comprised of Michael Senko, Varahunan Mathiyalakan and Linnea Holahan won the fifth grade competition.
"It's fabuous to have so many teams," said WFEE member and bee organizer, Caren Connelly. "It's great to have so many teams and so many new teams as well."
Overall there were 50 teams competing in the bee.
The WFEE holds various fundraisers throughout the year in order to raise money to support the Winchester schools. In 2010, WFEE donated more than $140,000 to Winchester's public schools. And in the last seven years, the donations surpassed $2 million.
"This is just a nice community event," Connelly said of the bee. "It's a good chance to get out int he winter and see people. It's also a great way to support the schools."
