Police Logs: Mailman Helps Woman

The following information is supplied by the Winchester Police Department. These do not indicate a conviction.

 

Wednesday, May 23

8:23 a.m.: A Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling west on Cross Street when it collided with a Toyota Sienna, which was turning left onto Cross Street.

4:34 p.m.: A large vehicle struck a utility pole on East Street then took off. Debris was scattered on the ground including large splinters and broken glass, running for approxiamately 20 feet in the westbound direction.

Thursday, May 24 

6:18 a.m.: An operator of a Ford Mustang stated that while driving north on Ridge Street saw a Ford Focus coming toward the intersection, but thought he or she could make it through. The Ford Focus was traveling west on Johnson Road. Both vehicles were towed.

11:22 a.m.: A wallet was found at the Dairy Barn. The party was contacted and informed that the wallet was being held at the police station.

11:44 a.m.: A mailman heard cries for help coming from 17 Everell Road. An elderly woman fell over and was in pain in her legs and hips. The mailman had to kick in the door to get in to help. Officers responded to the call and took the woman to Winchester Hospital. The responding officer would like to recognize Mailman Harold Benson for his actions.

5:45 p.m.: A motorcyclist was traveling on Mt. Vernon Street and had to dump the bike to avoid a head-on collision with a vehicle that made a left-hand turn on Stevens Street.
