Police Logs: Mailman Stops Argument Over Gardening

The following information is supplied by the Winchester Police Department. These do not indicate a conviction.

Wednesday, June 13

9:10 a.m.: A Chevy Van struck a Geo Prizm at a red light at the intersection of Main and Water street. The driver of the van left the scene of the accident going westbound on Water Street. The driver was later found with a suspended license.

10:30 a.m.: A Chevy Box struck a parked Audi Stwag while pulling into a parking spot on Thompson Street.

10:47 a.m.: A resident on Florence Street reported a stolen package containing a book and two small troll dolls. The resident confirmed the package had been delivered with USPS, but it was not at her home.

8:57 p.m.: An $11,000 diamond ring was reported missing. The solitaire platinum ring is 1.2 karats with eight baguettes on each side. The owner lost the ring Monday while visiting a few businesses on Church Street and Thompson Street.

9:37 p.m.: A Toyota Tundra with no registration plates was towed from Ginn Road. The owner who had no registration status was contacted and said the vehicle had been parked in the current location for several days.

Thursday, June 14

11:31 a.m.: A 2007 Hyundai struck a 2010 Toyota that suddenly stopped on Main Street near the Hemingway Street intersection.

10:57 p.m.: A resident reported $4,900 was stolen from his account. The unauthorized transaction came from Wells Fargo under the name of “Sean Taylor”. The victim first thought the transfer was related to closing costs from his house purchase, but soon realized that wasn’t the case. He also stated this same incident happened with a fellow employee at his place of employment for the same amount of money. He has already notified the bank.

Friday, June 15

6 a.m.: A Nissan Altima collided with a Chevy Impala at the intersection of Bacon and Church street. The driver of the Altima said he did not see the red light because of a solar glare but knew it was an intersection.

9:02 a.m.: Officers responded to a disturbance call at the Mary Murphy Apartments over gardening. One resident accused her neighbor of being a poor gardener saying she “doesn’t know what she’s doing” and cuts down perfectly good plants like the hydrangeas and rose bushes. The accused resident said she just wants to keep the area around the building looking nice.

While the neighbors were arguing, they began pulling on a potted plant. Both said it did not turn physical, and there were no reported injuries. The mailman broke up the fight when he saw it get heated. Officers suggested the residents to stay away from each other to cool down, and also noted the department has responded to similar complaints of gardening around the property and harassment.

11:41 a.m.: A customer reported fraudulent transactions on his account. Two Kreuger Coffee Makers at $133.56 each were purchased with his debit card. He has already contacted the bank.

12:02 p.m.: A Toyota Tacoma was stopped at a crosswalk for a pedestrian on Church Street when the driver of Kia Rio struck the vehicle because she was distracted by a text message. The driver of the Rio was transported to Lahey Clinic with possible head and neck injuries. The driver of the Rio was issued a citation for receiving a text while driving and the vehicle also had to be towed.
