School Committee to Hear Alternative Redistricting Plans
Parents are invited to hear the alternative plans at tonight's School Committee meeting in the Winchester High School auditorium.
The School Committee will hear alternative redistricting plans from the public at tonight's meeting.
Residents are invited to view the plans and engage in a Q&A session in the Winchester High School auditorium starting at 7:30 p.m.
Each presentation is allotted 25 minutes for the plan explanation and a Q&A session.
The presentations will go as follows:
- 7:30 p.m. - Advanced Learning Opportunities Plan
- 7:55 p.m. - Kindergarten Flex Plan
- 8:20 p.m. - Open Enrollment Plan
- 8:45 p.m. - Buffer Zone Plan #2
- 9:10 p.m. - Buffer Zone Plan #1
Superintendent William McAlduff presented his recommendations to the School Committee in late May, but the vote was postponed because of concerns from the community. A new date for a vote has been proposed for the first week in November.
In response, the Redistricting Advisory Committee asked the public to submit their plans for consideration. The School Committee held a series of meetings to learn about and receive feedback on these various plans.

The RAC is responsible for creating and presenting plans for redistricting the elementary school attendance boundaries. The RAC, established in November 2011, spent the remainder of the year and 2012 collecting feedback and suggestions.
Tonight, parents, residents and advisors will present their alternative options to the School Committee for public input. (See the attached PDFs to review the plans.)
The RAC and superintendent oversee recommendations made to the School Committee. The Committee makes the final decision related to enrollment recommendations.
The RAC will make a presentation on the plans they have been considering at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11.
Recommendations for redistricting changes will be effective at the beginning of the 2013-2014 academic year.
Parents are still encouraged to submit concerns and ideas on the redistricting website.
The School Committee meeting will be televised on Wincam and can be watched online as well.
