Week in Review: Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested and Town Center Changes

Check out what happened this week in Winchester.

A 28-year-old Medford man was charged with unarmed robbery.

According to Winchester Police, Michael J. Grande, 28, of Medford was charged with stealing $500 from Sovereign Bank in Winchester on Feb. 7.

The town conducted a parking study, and according to the results, the Board of Selectmen and Planning Board were told that the lack of parking is hurting retail and restaurant sales and makes it difficult for clients to reach professional services.

To combat those issues, the town is moving towards a parking management plan that would include pay stations around the town center and in the parking lots.

The Winchester Town Center is an area in town that could see housing units added. The Planning Board and Town Planner, Betsy Ware, are working on a Town Center Initiative.

Winchester High School's service program, Connect and Commit, will be giving residents of town another opportunity to give back to the community.

The organization, along with the Winchester Youth Center, will be holding a Relay for Life from 6 p.m., Saturday, June 16 to 6 a.m., Sunday June 17 at Skillings Field.

On Feb. 23, members of “Bust-a-Move for Breast Cancer” presented Dr. Kelly Cornell and Maribeth Canning with a check for $38,000, for the Winchester Hospital Breast Care Center.
