Please join the St. Mary’s Choir and members of the Melrose Symphony in concert on Sunday, December 23 at 7:00 at St. Mary’s Church, 159 Washington Street in Winchester. They will perform John Rutter’s Magnificat under the direction of Randy O’Keefe. Soloists for the evening are Moya Charig and Joanne Boag. The Magnificat is the song of praise to God that Mary proclaimed upon being greeted by her cousin Elizabeth. The most well-known setting of this text was composed by J.S. Bach. Although most people do not associate the text with Christmas, Bach originally performed his setting of the Magnificat at Vespers on Christmas Day. Therefore, it is only appropriate that St. Mary’s music program select this Marian canticle of praise on the cusp of our Christmas celebrations. Consider taking a night away from crowded mall shopping to hear this inspiring piece and enter into the Christmas season with this joyous hymn of praise and thanksgiving.

More About Saint Mary's Parish
Saint Mary's Parish is a Roman Catholic Church located on Washington Street, directly across from Saint Mary's Elementary School. The church, which was established in 1875, has been a staple of the Winchester community.
St. Mary's takes very good care of the youth in its parish. It has a youth council that meets on the first Wednesday of every month from 7 pm to 9pm. It's a teen-led planning board that has the same function as the Parish council, except they focus on youth activities and events.
The parish youth group enacts whatever the council decides, whether it's car washes, pumpkin carving, soup kitchens or any number of other activities. The parish also has a youth mass that celebrates the young people in the parish once a month at the 11:30am mass. This gives teens a chance to take part in the ceremony as Eucharistic ministers, lecturers, greeters and gift-bearers.
Saint Mary's holds religious education classes every week for grades 1 - 11. The church also holds a vacation bible study camp for children aged 6 - 10 over the summer, as well as a curriculum geared to children with autism or other special needs children.
