The Winchester Board of Selectmen recently chose Stacie Ward as the town's new comptroller.

The Winchester Board of Selectmen recently chose Stacie Ward as the town's new comptroller. Ward has been a municipal accounting and financial consultant with Sullivan, Rogers & Company since 2004, according to a press statement. In that role, she has served as interim town accountant or finance director for several communities, according to the statement The Selectmen unanimously approved Ward as the town comptroller during their Thursday night meeting at Town Hall. Ward was selected following a two-part process, which included a screening committee—comprised of various town officials—interviewing her and four other candidates and nominating two, according to the statement. Lane on Main Street Bridge Closed During Part of Center Falls Dam Project

A lane on the Main Street bridge will be closed for roughly a month while repairs are made to erosion discovered under the bridge abutment at the Center Falls Dam project site.

Updated at 3 p.m. Thursday A lane on the Main Street bridge is closed during repairs to the abutment, according to the town website. "Due to ongoing construction at the Center Falls Dam and the Main Street bridge near the Town Center, the town has temporarily closed the parking lane on the south side of the bridge," reads a press statement on the site. "Additionally, traffic patterns have been temporarily re-routed onto the southern side of the bridge to close the entire westbound lane. "This closure was necessary due to significant undermining of the bridge abutment recently discovered in the northeast quadrant of the Main Street bridge. Once the emergency repairs are made to the bridge, the parking lane will be reopened and the traffic …

Markey or Gomez: Who Would You Vote for Today?

The two will face off on June 25 in the U.S. Senate special election.

    After months of campaigning we now know who is going head to head in the June 25 special U.S. Senate election. Democratic Congressman Edward Markey (D-Malden) took the Democratic vote in the Tuesday election over fellow Congressman Stephen Lynch (D-South Boston). Political newcomer and former U.S. Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez of Cohasset came out on top of a field of Republican candidates  - including more seasoned opponents former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan and State Rep. Dan Winslow of Norfolk. With a month and a half of campaigning still to come we wanted to stop and ask you this question. If the Special Election were today - who would you vote for right now? Gomez to Face Markey in Senate Election

The former Navy SEAL and the longtime Congressman will face off June 25 to fill John Kerry's former U.S. Senate seat.

A political newcomer will face a long-time Massachusetts politician in the race to be the Bay State's next U.S. senator. The Associated Press has declared Republican businessman and former U.S. Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez of Cohasset and Democratic U.S. Congressman Edward Markey of Malden the winners of their U.S. Senate special primary elections, according to tweets from Fox 25. The call for Gomez came approximately one hour after the polls closed in the statewide primary while a call for Markey came moments later. Gomez defeats his more seasoned opponents, former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan of Abington and state Rep. Dan Winslow of Norfolk. Markey beat fellow U.S. Congressman Stephen Lynch of South Boston. Complete Election Results for Senate Primary in Winchester

Republican candidate Gabriel Gomez, a former Navy SEAL, and longtime Democratic Congressman Ed Markey will face off June 25 to fill John Kerry's former U.S. Senate seat.

Following the state's lead, Republican Gabriel Gomez and Democrat Ed Markey garnered the most votes in Winchester in the U.S. Senate primary on Tuesday, according to unofficial results from the Town Clerk's office. Gomez, a former U.S. Navy SEAL, and Markey, a longtime Congressman, will square off June 25 to fill John Kerry's former U.S. Senate seat. In Winchester, about 24.2 percent of the 14,454 registered voters eligible to vote in the Senate primary cast their ballots. As of 3 p.m., nearly 13.2 percent of the voters turned up at the polls. In the Democratic race, Markey tallied 1,835 votes, followed by Stephen Lynch with 692. On the Republican side, Gomez captured 472 votes, ahead of Michael Sullivan (300 votes) and third-place …

Town Clerk Says Polls are 'Quiet' in Winchester

As of 3 p.m., more than 13 percent of the eligible registered voters had cast their ballots Tuesday during the U.S. Senate primary, according to Town Clerk Mary Elllen Lannon.

The polls have been "quiet" for the U.S. Senate primary on Tuesday in Winchester, according to Town Clerk MaryEllen Lannon. As of 3 p.m., more than 13 percent of the eligible registered voters had cast their ballots Tuesday during the U.S. Senate primary, according to Lannon. Of the 14,454 eligible registered voters in town, 1,907 had turned up at the polls, she added. When she went out to the polls at noon, Lannon described voter turnout as "slow and steady." Lannon is hopeful people will get off the commuter rail or come to the polls after work so "we can see a jump at the polls," she said.
