NEW CHAMBER OPERA "ANNE HUTCHINSON" PRESENTED BY INTERMEZZO

Outdoor summer music, now in its 44th season, concludes at the Parish of the Epiphany in Winchester. The last of four exciting public concerts is scheduled for Thursday evening, July 25, to be held out-of-doors in the beautiful Cloister Garden of the church.

This concert will feature members of Intermezzo, the New England Chamber Opera Project, in a world premiere of selections from the new opera "Anne Hutchinson." The full opera will have its debut in January at Boston's Modern Theatre.

This new opera, with music by Dan Shore and libretto by Fritz Bell and William Fregosi, tells the story of Anne Hutchinson, the "most infamous woman in colonial American history," who was tried for heresy and banished by the puritan fathers of the Massachusetts Bay colony in 1637. Contralto Marion Dry sings the role of Anne Hutchinson, while Governor John Winthrop will be portrayed by baritone David Kravitz, the Reverend John Cotton by tenor Ray Bauwens, and the Reverend Francis Marbury by baritone John Whittlesey. Musical director Linda Osborn will accompany at the piano.

The concert, which begins at 7:30, will be preceded at 6:30 by a potluck picnic dinner in the church's Woodland Garden, open to all. Following the concert there will be traditional ice cream sundaes for all in Hadley Hall, with its walls hung with another summer display of artwork.

Tickets, available at the door, are $15 general admission and $10 for seniors and students. Proceeds support the extensive music program of the church. The Parish of the Epiphany is located at 70 Church Street in Winchester. For further information, call the church at 781-729-1922.
