OBITUARY- Eugenia Marcus

Eugenia (Romano) Marcus, 89, of Concord, formerly of Wellesley, MA, Weston, MA and Boca Raton, FL died Sunday, the 18th of August, 2013 at Concord Health Care Center after a long and courageous battle with meningioma brain tumors. She was the beloved wife of the late Bernard Marcus who predeceased her in 1991.

Born in Mingo Junction, Ohio on September 8, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Eugenia (Ruggiero) Romano. She attended public schools in Ohio and received her Nursing Degree from St. Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
After graduation, she served as an Ensign in the U. S. Navy during World War II. While stationed at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital, she met her future husband, Bernard.

After having a family, Mrs. Marcus returned to work as a Registered Nurse. Throughout her nursing career, she held various positions at hospitals in both Massachusetts and Florida, including The Veterans Administration Hospital in Miami, Florida and The Waltham Hospital in Waltham, Massachusetts.

A resident of Massachusetts until her family was grown, she moved to Southern Florida with her husband while continuing to pursue her love of nursing. After her husband passed away, she relocated to Wellesley, Massachusetts to be closer to her daughters.
Survivors include her two daughters, Deborah Bagley (husband Ralph) of Sudbury & Newport, RI and Patricia Brajer (husband Peter) of Winchester, one sister, Helen Prince of Jupiter, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six sisters and one brother.

Concord’s town flag will fly at half-staff on Sunday, August 25th, in recognition of Mrs. Marcus’s Service in the U. S. Navy.

Arrangements are under the care of Susan M. Dee and Charles W. Dee, Jr., Dee Funeral Home of Concord.

Memorials:
Contributions in her memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute,
Attn: Donor Services, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
All contributions to the Dana Farber in her name will be applied to research in meningiomas.

Visitation:
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at the Funeral Home prior to the service on Sunday, August 25th.

Service:
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, the 25th of August at 2:00 pm in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. A reception will be held at the home of her daughter in Sudbury, immediately following the service.

Cemetery:
There will be a private burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, where officers of the U. S. Navy will present military honors
