Woburn Animal Hospital to Host 2014 Tick Disease Clinic for Dogs

(Woburn, MA) – Mark your calendars for the upcoming annual Tick Disease Clinic and Pet Fair at the Woburn Animal Hospital and Ledgebrook Kennel which will be held on Sunday, April 13th  from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. at 373 Russell Street in West Woburn.

This year marks the 12th time the Tick Disease Clinic has been hosted by Woburn Animal Hospital owners Dr. Paul Marino, VMD, and Dr. Anne-Ghilaine Schless, VMD. Open to the community, the clinic offers a 25% discount on screenings for five major tick-borne diseases plus heartworm.

The 2014 Tick Disease Clinic will also include an outdoor pet fair, a family-friendly event that will feature a variety of animal experts, impressive live demonstrations, obstacle courses, face painting, free food, and more. Visitors will also have the opportunity to receive information about protecting pets from parasites and treating diseases.

The indoor clinic will include a test for dogs for vector-borne diseases through a simple blood test that screens for mosquito-borne heartworm, tick-borne lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis ewingii, and anaplasma platys.

Dogs can also be tested for intestinal parasites at a 25% discounted price. Intestinal parasites, such as roundworms, whipworms, hookworms, and giardia, are screened through a process known as a fecal exam. Intestinal parasites cause dangerous infections to its host and may also infect people. A simple stool sample can prevent this.

The Microchip Pet ID program will also be available at a 25% discounted price to all dogs at the Tick Disease Clinic. The Microchip Pet ID program ensures lifelong identification through a tiny chip that is injected like a vaccine. A microchipped dog can be easily identified by shelters, animal hospitals, and police stations, all of which possess microchip scanners.

According to Woburn Animal Hospital Manager Stephanie, the purpose of the Tick Disease Clinic is to raise awareness about parasites and their threat to dogs.

“We offer a 25% discounted price on the tick disease test, the fecal exam, and the Microchip Pet ID program to encourage pet owners to have their dog tested and protected. This year will be even more fun with the Outdoor Pet Fair at the same time.”

No appointment is necessary and the dog does not need to be a patient of the Woburn Animal Hospital to take advantage of the Tick Disease Clinic.
