Local Dentist Offers Cash for Candy, Sweets for Our Troops

Lexington Smile Studio is accepting unopened candy -- and paying $1 per pound for it -- through Nov. 21. The candy collected, along with dental products, will be shipped to troops serving overseas.

A local dentist is again taking a “stand against sweets” this Halloween and offering local trick-or-treaters $1 per pound of candy they bring into her Lexington Smile Studio.

In addition to dollars, Fawn Fosenberg is giving away glowing electric toothbrushes in exchange for candy, which is sent to US troops in Iraq, along with toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash and letters from local schoolchildren.

“At this time of year, when there is so much candy available to children, we want to provide a worthwhile alternative,” Rosenberg said in a press release. “Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing and flossing daily are great preventative measures, but doing away with excess sweets altogether would really give your teeth a healthy boost. Kids can still have all the fun of trick-or-treating and now their piggy banks will benefit as well.”

Unopened candy – no bites, please – and letters to the troops will be collected at Lexington Smile Studio beginning today, Nov. 1, through Wednesday, Nov. 21. It will then be shipped overseas, along with oral homecare products.

A reader just emailed about another Lexington dentist buying candy and shipping it to troops overseas. Here's the info: Dr. Thomas Puschak, also in Lexington, offers $2/lb. up to $10, and also ships candy to overseas troops. His office is 175 Bedford Street in Lexington.
