Local Non-Profit Competes in Statewide Fundraiser

The late Tony Triglione of Winchester founded the Mission of Deeds, a non-profit that provides free beds and gently used furniture to those in need.

Mission of Deeds will be participating in The Giving Common Challenge, a statewide online fundraising event sponsored by The Boston Foundation.

Beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, Mission of Deeds will be joining 500 other non-profits to highlight their work and encourage donations through their profile on The Giving Common.

MOD, founded by the late Tony Triglione of Winchester, provides used furniture and household items for free to those in need living in Middlesex and Essex counties, said Beth Ryan, Director of Development.

"All items are donated by members of our communities and Winchester is a huge supporter," Ryan said.

Two generous donors have agreed to match donations made to the Mission of Deeds through TheGiving Common portal up to $7,500.

“We are extremely grateful to these generous supporters of Mission of Deeds and hope this match will encourage others to make a donation online.," said Bruce Murison, Executive Director of MOD. "A person’s $25 donation will end up becoming $50. It is only a 36-hour event, so it is extremely important that people go online then.”

Organizations taking part in this Challenge will not only raise funds for their programs but they will be competing for a total of $150,000 in prizes donated by The Boston Foundation. For example, if MOD is one of the first 10 non-profits to get 50 donors, it will win a $1,000 prize.

Mission of Deeds asks residents to mark their calendars for Oct. 10 and 11 and support them during the 36-hour event.

MOD is also entering all donors in a raffle to win two Celtics tickets.
