Winchester Man's Foundation to Donate $100K to Boston Marathon Victims' Peace Garden

The $1 million garden is planned for Medford.

A local businessman’s foundation will announce a $100,000 donation Monday night to the Krystle Campbell Memorial Peace Garden, which is planned for Medford, according to Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn.

Bill Cummings’ Cummings Foundation is making the hefty contribution. Cummings, a Medford native and Winchester resident, owns Cummings Properties, a commercial real estate firm based in Woburn. His foundation donates $100,000 to 100 area programs or nonprofits annually.

The $1 million garden will honor the three Boston Marathon bombing victims: Krystle Campbell, a 2001 Medford High graduate who lived in Arlington, 8-year-old Martin Richard of Dorchester and Boston University student Lingzi Lu. In addition, the garden will honor MIT Police Officer Sean Collier, who was allegedly killed by the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, and all those injured.

The garden will be built next to the Medford Senior Center, at the corner of Riverside Avenue and Clippership Drive near Medford Square.

A mix of federal and state grants, private donations and in-kind services will fund the garden, McGlynn said.
