Race, the Power of an Illusion

The Peace and Justice Committee of St. Mary’s Church and the Multicultural Network are honoring Black History Month with a screening of Race, the Power of an Illusion, a documentary series that reviews the development of the concept of race and its impact on social and political policy.

The three segments of the documentary are titled The Difference Between Us, which cites scientific evidence for why the peoples of the world cannot be divided into distinct biological groups; The Story We Tell, which traces the origins of the racial idea to the European conquest of the New World and the American slave system; and The House We Live In, which deals with institutional racism and its impact on housing, neighborhoods, and communities in America.

If you haven’t seen Race, the Power of an Illusion, we urge you to attend this screening and participate in the discussion of this powerful film series.
