"The Man with The Guitar"--Jimi Hendrix Film Festival

The Regent Theatre in Arlington, Massachusetts will present an exclusive Jimi Hendrix film and concert tribute "The Man with The Guitar" celebrating the rock icon's unsurpassed music, mastery, and magic 40 years after his death on September 18, 1970.

Five documentary films will be presented throughout the weekend—on the big screen in concert sound—including a rare theatrical screening of the 1973 Warner Brothers film portrait "a film about Jimi Hendrix;" while Boston's Thaddeus Hogarth Trio will perform a live concert tribute, "Thaddeus Plays Jimi," on Saturday, September 18 at 8pm.

The concert film portion of the weekend—double features Fri 9/17 ("Live at Monterey" and "Live at Woodstock") and Sun 9/19 ("Jimi Plays Berkeley" and "Live at the Isle of Wight Festival")—provides a comprehensive look at Hendrix's all too brief, yet prolific four-year career, and reveals his unmatched musicianship alongside undeniable charisma and showmanship.

From his mind-blowing and groundbreaking showcase at the Monterey Int'l Pop Festival (June, 1967), to his sensational closing set at Woodstock (August, 1969); to the politically charged but highly musical Berkeley concert (Memorial Day, 1970); and his intense, riveting set at the Isle of Wight (August, 1970)—just weeks before his death at 27—the films present a rare chance for Hendrix enthusiasts and those simply curious as to what the fuss is all about, to come as close as possible to witnessing him live in all his sonic power and visual splendor.

And, the Warner Brothers documentary, originally released in 1973, provides a revealing snapshot of his early years and entire career with candid interviews alongside still more concert and behind-the-scenes footage.
