Wright-Locke Summer Solstice Party

The Wright-Locke Farm is celebrating the longest day of the year with a summer gathering in the 1827 barn.  The June 22nd event will begin at 7pm and is the first of a series of gatherings in the barn, including a Contra Dance on July 21st, Harvest Cocktails and a Harvest Dinner in early September.  Proceeds from the events benefit the organic farm’s operations and new educational programs.  The solstice gathering is partly supported by The Winchester Neighbors Club and in-kind contributions from Cape Ann Brewery and Winchester Wine and Spirits.  Online registration for the solstice event can be accessed at www.wlfarm.org.

The Solstice party will feature local musicians Jake Armerding and Annie Bartlett playing “newgrass” fiddle music.  The Boston Globe calls Jake “the most gifted and promising songwriter to emerge from the Boston folk scene in years”.  Annie is a classically trained violinist who studied at the New England Conservatory Prep and played in the Yale Symphony Orchestra.

The Wright-Locke Farm, located at 78 Ridge Street in Winchester, MA is a community-owned farm operated by the Wright-Locke Farm Conservancy, Inc. a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit corporation.  The Conservancy operates the farm, established in the 1630s and owned by only three families until its purchase by the Town of Winchester in 2007.  Today, in addition to the farm-based education programs, the Conservancy operates a U-pick raspberry field and grows certified organic produce and flowers that are sold to local restaurants and at farmers markets.  For more information about the farm and the Conservancy please visit the Conservancy’s website at www.wlfarm.org, and come up for a walk anytime.
