It was an incredible moment on the Esplanade in Boston on Thursday night as Winchester native Richard "Dic" Donohue, the MBTA officer critically injured in a shoot-out in Watertown with the Boston Marathon bombers in July, helped conduct a song by the Boston Pops.

Donohue, 33, of Woburn, who is still recovering from his injuries, took to the stage on crutches and conducted the Pops in a rendition of the Dropkick Murphys' song "Shipping Up to Boston" as a tribute to Boston's first responders and medical professionals.

After the song, Donohue's wife, Kim, an Exeter High School graduate, joined him on stage.

Donohue told the crowd of Fourth of July revelers he's "getting better every day," and said that without the dozen or so first responders and hospital employees who came to his aid, "I wouldn't be here today."
