VIDEO: Martin Luther King Celebration

The Winchester Multicultural Network (WMCN) and Winchester's Family Action Network (FAN) hosted its annual MLK Celebration and multicultural fair on Monday.

On Monday, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the held it's annual celebration of the birthday of Dr. King with a multicultural fair.

The fair gathered some 150 Winchester parent's and their children to partake in arts and crafts, a bake sale and watching video of Dr. King's, I Have a Dream speech. The event was was capped off with a performance by Alice Heller and her West African Dance Troupe of the Brio Integrated Theatre Company.

“This was one of the earliest events that our multicultural network [the WMCN] started in order to celebrate diversity in the community. And Martin Luther King Day really encompasses that notion of brotherhood and equality we strive for,” said Sarah Lewis, Head Coordinator of the event.

The event also included the Family Action Network (FAN) of Winchester as members came out to support the event.

“In recent years we joined with FAN. We now have this great mix of families that are new to town, and long-time members of the community that can come together," Lewis said. "I think we do these things to better realize our message of unity. It's lovely for me to see such a wide mix of people coming together."

On Sunday, Feb. 13, the WMCN will be screening the documentary on racial relations, Race, the Power of an Illusion.
