When is Winchester Town Day?

Thousands are expected to turn up for the 32nd annual Winchester Town Day on Saturday.

Town Day will be the second major event held by the town in May, with the first being the En Ka Fair. The event runs from 8 a.m. to around 9 p.m. 

"Winchester Town Day had its beginning in the mid 1970s when a group of residents of the town decided that a late spring community party would be a great way to start off the summer," reads the event website. "Although the original Town Day was held in 1974-1976, it was revived in 1982 by the Winchester Jaycee chapter. It is now over-seen by the Winchester Town Day Committee, a group of volunteers who come together each year with the sole purpose of holding a celebration for the Winchester community."

Activities Abound

Dozens of activities will be going on at Town Day, including pony rides, town vehicle displays, demonstrations, a Rotary pancake breakfast, a BBQ and a Rubber Duckie Drop. Check out the complete schedule and locations for each event.

Celebrating Arbor Day

The town, which has been recognized by the National Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA community for a second consecutive year, will be planting a new tree along Mill Pond at the rear of Town Hall at 10 a.m. on Town Day, according to a town press statement. More than 100 trees have been planted in the past two years as part of the town's Street Tree program, according to the statement.

Tight Lines

A fishing derby, which will be held rain or shine, is slated to run from 9-11:30 a.m. at Wedge Pond at Elliot Park during Town Day. Children in grades up to and including sixth grade can participate in the derby, and all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (only one parent is required for families with multiple children entering the derby). Entry forms can be submitted at Elliot Park.

Grand Finale

Town Day will conclude with a fireworks display, which will be held rain or shine, at 9 p.m. Children in grades up to and including sixth grade can enter for a chance to start the fireworks display by submitting a form to the Town Day Booth.

Hundreds of vendors from Massachusetts and New Hampshire will be in attendance for Town Day. As of 6 a.m. Friday, here is the current list of vendors slated to participate at the event:
