The following is a press release from Winchester Hospital.

Sixteen members of medical staff were honored as top-rated doctors in their respective specialties.

The December edition of Boston Magazine features the 2011 list of Top Docs in Greater Boston. This list is comprised of a total of 650 physicians selected by their peers in 57 specialties.

Winchester Hospital’s honorees are colorectal surgeon Dennis Begos, MD, FACS, FASCRS of Commonwealth Surgical Associates in Stoneham; ophthalmologist David Gendelman, MD of Burlington Eye Associates; plastic surgeon Jonathan Hall, MD, who has an office in Stoneham; Dennis Markovitz, MD who has a family medicine practice in Winchester; geriatrician Wayne Saltsman, MD, PhD who has a private practice in Stoneham; and Peter Tiffany, MD of Mystic Valley Urological Associates, Inc. in Stoneham.

“Being selected as a ‘Top Doc’ is a significant achievement. Winchester Hospital is truly fortunate to be associated with these fine physicians, all leaders in their professional specialties,” said Kevin Smith, president and chief executive officer of Winchester Hospital. “These physicians capture the very essence of excellence in health care for which Winchester Hospital is known. They are representative of the care our patients can confidently expect from all our medical staff and affiliated physicians.”

To identify the area’s best doctors, Boston Magazine partnered with New York-based Castle Connelly Medical Ltd., a health care research and information company founded in 1991 to help guide consumers to America’s top doctors and top hospitals.

Castle Connelly’s physician-led team of researchers follows a rigorous process to select top doctors on both the national and regional levels. Using mail and telephone surveys and electronic ballots, they ask physicians and the medical leadership of leading hospitals to identify highly skilled, exceptional doctors. Doctors’ educational and professional experience is then screened before final selection is made. Doctors do not and cannot pay to be profiled.
