Business is Steady at Stone Hearth Pizza

Stone Hearth Pizza opened its doors to customers in mid-January.

Since opening its doors to customers in mid-January, business has been steady at Stone Hearth Pizza, according to manager Jessica Solomon.

The business, which launched Jan. 16 at the former T Michaels location at 528 Main St., has done the most business typically at dinner time but there has been a steady lunch crowd as well, according to Solomon.

"Since it is the first restaurant I have ever opened, when we opened the doors it was so busy," Solomon said with a chuckle. "Everyone wanted to come in and not only did everyone want to come into the restaurant, but they also wanted to come in at 5:30 (p.m.). I do not think we have gotten any less busy, I just think on any given night it has been staggered a little bit, which is really helpful. And, as the days have been getting a little longer there has been more foot traffic on the streets and people seem to be out eating dinner a little later so we have seen the bar get a little busier which is nice."

While there may be other Stone Hearth Pizza locations in Massachusetts, the Winchester location is the first to have a full bar, according to Solomon.

"We have eight draft lines and we have a good selection of dark beers and light beers and everything in between," Solomon said. "We try to feature only New England craft beers and smaller breweries, and we do not work with any of the large distributors. We try to keep the bar with the philosophy of the restaurant which is sustainable, local (and) organic."

Among the popular dishes at the restaurant, Soloman said customers enjoy the parmesan flatbread and meatball poppers as starters, while people have taken to their special pizzas and salads.

"We do the special pizzas and salads monthly and we try to feature ingredients that are not necessarily on the menu and that you may not find at other places," Solomon said.

The restaurant also has gluten-free options on the menu, Solomon added.

Solomon said many of the cocktails are from local distilleries including Maine, Boston, Vermont and New Hampshire. "We try to use as many ingredients in our food as we do in our cocktails," she added.

The restaurant, which has about 30 total employees, has 50 tables and seats 75, according to Solomon. Some of the staff include students from Winchester High School, she added.

Nelito Oliveira, a Dorchester native who has been in the restaurant business for more than 10 years, said he loves working at the Winchester restaurant.

"It's great here," Oliveira said. "The environment is great, everybody works together as a team, we have good management here and we make good organic food."

The business, which offers takeout, is open from 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Customers can also place orders online.
