Chef Barbara Lynch to Give Cooking Demonstration on the Common

Winchester resident Barbara Lynch will be stopping by Saturday's farmers market to give a cooking demo of how to make a harvest salad as well as a six-minute egg.

From the beginning of the summer until the end of the fall you can always count on the Winchester Farmers Market. Every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. the vendors will set up their tents and sell freshly grown produce.

But this Saturday will be a little different, as Chef Barbara Lynch will be attending the market. Lynch owns eight different cooking ventures around Boston, from Drink, her restaurant devoted to cocktails to Stir, a demonstration cookbook and store, to her most famous restaurant, No. 9 Park, which overlooks the Boston Common and whose menu is a unique combination of French and Italian cuisine.

Lynch, who has lived in Winchester for a number of years, will be giving a cooking demonstration on the Commons. The demo is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., followed by a book signing at 11:30 a.m. Lynch will be autographing her new cookbook, Stir: Mixing up the Italian Tradition.

"I was thrilled to receive an invitation from the market to come over and demonstrate a few recipes from my cookbook using the gorgeous local produce," Lynch said. "This is the best time of the year for our markets and a great time to cook. The fruits and veggies are so fresh and flavorful you really don't need to do much to them, which means inherently healthy, delicious, and easy cooking."

BookEnds will also be at the market selling copies of Lynch's book.

As far as the demonstration goes, it is one the farmers market is highly anticipating.

"We're honored to have Chef Lynch coming to our market," said Sara Ferguson who, along with Fred Yen, helps organize the market. "It's wonderful for her to give her time and talk to her neighbors about what she does best."

Lynch is also excited to get a chance to show off some new and easy recipes to local residents.

"It will be nice to see some familiar faces and meet new neighbors," Lynch said. "I love sharing recipes and giving tips for making the most of seasonal fruits and vegetables, and what better place to do this than at a farmers market where I'm surrounded by incredible ingredients."

During the demonstration, Chef Lynch will be making a harvest salad of shaved vegetables with white balsamic vinegar, a six-minute egg and truffled crostini. She'll also include tastes of a chilled corn soup and chocolate cookies.

Every week the market has been trying to bring something unique to the Town Common. This summer the market has seen Vittorio from Bistro 5 in West Medford and Chris Parson from Parson's Table in Winchester stop by to give various demonstrations.

Now with the arrival of Chef Lynch on Saturday, it's just another example of how the Winchester Farmers Market continues to grow.

"This is another feature that draws people to the market," Yen said. "It makes the Commons a festive area. People and families are drawn there. It's just a great atmosphere."
