"Pet store/self dog wash store...like Dharma Dog that used to be at the Whole Foods plaza," wrote reader Heidi Driscoll. Fellow reader BAV concurred, saying, "A pet store. A Brigham's (Ice Cream). A video rental store. Maybe a copy or stationery store. I guess maybe just the things that closed over the past 30 years..."

Food & Drink Destinations

While pet store was the top vote-getter, readers had some food and drink-related ideas as to what should open in Winchester.

"A non-Asian, authentic ethnic restaurant. Think Tu y Yo (authentic Mexican) from Teele Sq. in Somerville or Helmand (Afghan) from East Cambridge near the Galleria mall," wrote reader Stacey Irizarry.

With Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks already established in the community, reader MB wants to see "a non-chain coffee shop" open.

Sports and Creative Space

Reader Kevin pitched the idea of a sporting goods store opening in the community not only for business purposes, but to work with local sports teams.

"How about a sporting goods store? Subsidize it with the town's sports teams, a shoe store...look at Lexington and Belmont centers," he wrote. "We have banks, we have hardware, we have pizza, baked goods ... look to back fill the stores we don't have. The last thing we need is another hair or nail salon."

Meanwhile, reader Sox Fan wants to see something a bit different open up in town: "(A) creative project space for kids (and adults). Like ArtBeat in Arlington, or H3XL in Burlington, or Parts and Crafts in Somerville."
