Winchester Makes Top 20 Most Educated Towns List

Find out where Winchester ranks on Nerdwallet's top 20 most educated towns in the country list.

Would you believe that Winchester residents are some of the most educated in America? Well, Nerdwallet thinks so.

Nerdwallet, a website that claims to help consumers save money and make smarter decisions about their personal finances, travel plans or higher education, posted an article Monday outlining the top 10 smartest towns in the United States, and Winchester made the 20th spot. 

Brookline, Needham, Newton and Wellesley made it into the top 10 spots.

About 67 percent of Winchester residents who are at least 25 have earned a bachelor's degree or higher, and only 2.8 percent did not finsh high school, according to Nerdwallet's results. 

"We found that many of the places on this list have underlying industries and educational resources that draw educated residents," the website says. "Challenging and technical jobs tend to attract more skilled and educated workers, and having educated workers at every level of operation can help sustain a more robust and knowledgeable workforce."

To compare, Wellesley, the most educated town in Massachusetts according to this study, has a 2.2 percent high school dropout rate among its current residents, and about 80 percent have a bachelor's degree or higher.
