Alternative to Redistricting Proposal

Alternative to Redistricting Proposal - turning a PROBLEM into an OPPORTUNITY!

As a parent of four, who were already redistricted, leaving us unable to walk to Elementary school, and having to pay for the bus (we are 1.99 miles away), I am firmly against taking away the neighborhood school option for more families.

Exercise has been proven to make kids smarter -- refer to John Ratey's book, "Spark." In fact, fellow parents at Ambrose have started a before-school exercise class, allowing kids to get their blood flowing and getting ready for the mental challenges of the day. We have already seen positive results in our kids, after only 2.5 months in the program!

By taking the way the ability to walk from more families, we are committing a crime. Further, by 'redistricting' we are only perpetuating the problem, which will arise again and again, as enrollment figures change.

My cohorts and I have put forth a proposal, turing the current PROBLEM into a 21st century Educational OPPORTUNITY.

Our ALO (Advanced Learning Opportunity) program benefits not only those children participating (getting these kids to VO and Lynch), but the entire town. By enriching our educational approach via block scheduling, and multi-age classrooms (which ALREADY occur inequitably in our town), the entire educational system will benefit. EVERYONE should be in support of this program. Please plan on attending the 10/2 proposal presentation, at 7pm at WHS.

We are happy to share the proposal/details/answer questions/concerns with anyone. And if you can lend a helping hand, even better!

Thank you very much.
