Burlington Blizzard Baby Welcomed Back to Winchester Hospital

On Monday, Jan. 12, Xavier was born in the middle of a blizzard.

Nearly a month after Lisa Gallegos of Burlington - Xavier - brought back the family and the staff who helped deliver the baby, to commemorate everyone who participated in the birth.

On Xavier's birthday - Monday, Jan. 12 - Winchester was in the middle of its second blizzard, and Gallegos started to feel contracts 10 days before her due date. She was more than willing to ride out the storm that dropped nearly two feet of snow in her apartment. But the contractions became so intense that she ordered her boyfriend that it was time to go.

On their way to the hospital, her water broke and she had to push. By the time Gallegos reached the hospital, Xavier's head was already out and he was delivered five minutes later in the Emergency Department.

"It's pretty unusual to have a baby born in the ER," said Suzette Fabbri, one of the nurses who helped deliver the baby. "In 13 years here I've never delivered a baby in the ER."

"She was quite lucky," said Dr. Nadine Aprahamian, who delivered the baby. "By the time she made it into the room the baby was already being delivered."
