Five Places to Beat the Heat in Winchester

Patch takes a look around town for five places to go to help beat the heat as temperatures rise this summer.

It's hot out there these days in Winchester and other parts of Boston. With the rising temperatures, Patch thought it would be a good idea to list five places in town to help cool you down.

  • (4 Palmer Street, right behind Packer Tennis Courts) – The beach with the funkiest name in town. Bobo Beach is the easiest and cheapest way for those that don't have access to a pool to get in a nice swim. Plus, they have a pretty sweet Splash Park for the kids. Borggaard is regularly open everyday from 12 – 5 p.m from now until August 16. The cost to enter is $4/child and $5/adult for the day.
  • Winchester Public Library (80 Washington Street) – Two letters for you – A and C. If this isn't reason enough to spend some time this summer at the library, then maybe all the free interactive entertainment the library is offering up is. Children's stories in the morning, Teen Wii parties, Winchester Writer's gatherings, music, free Internet, ROAR, and much more. If you or your kids have nothing to do this summer, there is always something going on at the library.
  • The Chill Zone and Cups and Cones (14 Skillings Road and 527 Main Street) – You scream, I scream, it's too hot to scream for ice cream. Save your energy and swing by either the Chill Zone or the new ice cream place in town, Cups and Cones, for an icy treat that will surely help drop your body temperature.
  • Concept Equipment (25 East Street) – Maybe this years' heatwave has finally made you give in and buy your own AC Unit. There is no better place in town then the good folks over at Concept Equipment. They take you through the entire process of commercial AC installation, from selecting a unit, to the actual installation. Give them a buzz.
  • (Winchester Commons) – Well, if you can't stay out of the heat, might as well listen to some good music while it's sweltering out. Every Wednesday during the summer months, Winchester hosts its Concerts on the Commons from 7 to 8 p.m.
