Today is Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Showers early: There may be some rain for your morning commute (for those of use that have to work), but after that it should be clearing up. According to the National Weather Service, the high for Friday will be 52 degrees. There’s a chance of showers before 9 a.m., but as the day goes on it should become increasingly sunnier.
  2. Veterans Day: The , began after the Second World War and has been held for the last 64 years. It kicks off at 10 a.m. on Friday from and ends by Town Hall at the War Memorial.
  3. Library: The will be closed on Veterans Day. But it will be open on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9:30 – 5:30 and on Sunday, Nov. 13 from 2 – 5 p.m.
  4. About Town: There may be less traffic if you have to head into work this morning as all schools in Winchester will have the day off. The , as well as all town government offices will also be closed today.
  5. Some history: Veterans Day honors military veterans. It is celebrated on Nov. 11, the day that the armistice was signed that ended WW I. The treaty was signed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
