Today is Monday, April 18. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Cloudy and warm: It’s starting to warm up on Monday, but we’re not completely past all the rain. According to the National Weather Service, the high for Monday is expected to be 57 degrees. There is expected to be a steady wind, with gusts up 29 mph. By Monday night, more showers are expected, but they shouldn’t begin until after 8 p.m.
  2. Today’s a holiday (but not really): So, it’s Patriots’ Day, there’s an early Red Sox game, Lexington festivities and a . But most of us still need to work today. It’s almost a holiday. There’s no school (spring vacation week) and offices are closed. But since this isn’t a federal holiday, you will still and federal offices will remain opened.
  3. Taxes due: Hopefully you enjoyed a stress-free weekend from filing your taxes. Since an back to this week. But your procrastination is now over. Your federal taxes must be postmarked by today. However, because of the oddity that is Patriots’ Day (it’s considered a state holiday), you have an extra day to get in your state returns.
  4. Pneumonia Shots: Beginning in April, Winchester is offering . The shot protects against 23 types of pneumococcal bacteria, including those that cause serious disease of lungs (pneumonia), blood, and brain (meningitis).   5. Flushing Notice: Beginning Wednesday, April 13, of the town’s east/west water system will be taking place during the day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for approximately three weeks. Thewill begin flushing with the East side for the first two weeks and the West side for the third week. During flushing, residents should refrain from using water for drinking, dishwashing, and laundry as some discoloration of water may occur. If you experience discolored water, let the cold water run until it clears.
