Five Things You Need To Know Today, December 26

Next week is the last day to sign up for boy scouts to pick up your Christmas trees.

Today is Monday, Dec. 26. Here are five things you need to know.

  1. Sunny and cool: It should be pretty sunny throughout the day. According to the National Weather Service, the high Monday is expected to be 44 degrees. It should be partly sunny in the morning, but there could be wind gusts up to 30 mph. By Monday night, temperatures are expected to drop to 26 degrees.
  2. Christmas tree pick-up: Local Boy Scout Troop 507 can The Boy Scouts will from Winchester residents on Saturday, Jan. 7. The Scouts will pick up trees and bring them to the Transfer Station for those residents who have pre-registered with a $10 donation.  To register, send your name, address and phone number with a check for $10 per tree payable to BSA Troop 507, c/o Tom Eid, 28 Maxwell Road, Winchester, MA  01890. Or you can sign up with a Boy Scout from Troop 507 at the Transfer Station on Saturdays in December. The order deadline is Monday, January 2, 2012.
  3. Coats for Kids: is participating in "Coast for Kids.” They are looking for all sizes from Pre-K through adult large. Hammond asks that you drop off all coats at their office, 552 Main Street, across from Starbucks. The last day to drop off coats is Jan. 8.
  4. Winter Parking: The winter parking ban is an effect. Vehicles parked on the street between 1 and 7 a.m. are subject to fines. Any vehicles parked on the street during a snow emergency may be fined and towed.
  5. Flu shot: The Winchester Board of Health has flu vaccine; flu shots and FluMist. Supplies are limited. If interested, please contact Kathy Whittaker, Public Health Nurse at 781-721-7121 to arrange for an appointment.
