Five Things You Need To Know Today, Feb. 23

Today is Thursday, Feb. 23. Here are five things you need to know.

  1. Rain early: There might be some showers for your morning commute. According to the National Weather Service, the high for Thursday is expected to be 54 degrees. There’s a chance of showers Thursday morning, but that should end by 10 a.m. After that, the sun should eventually come out, but expect to see more rain late Thursday night into Friday.
  2. Romantic Music: The will be holding a talk on the romantic period of music and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. With a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance, Deborah Moscoso has been singing, conducting, and teaching music for three decades. This program is free and open to the public. It is presented by the Education Committee of the Winchester Seniors Association and is supported by a grant from the John and Mary Murphy Educational Foundation. Coffee and cookies will be available at 10 a.m.
  3. Shingles:  There are a limited amount of shingles shots available for Winchester residents. Each shot costs $87 and you must be at least 50 years old. The vaccine is covered by Medicare Part D. For those who have a limited income and insurance that does not cover the shingles vaccine, financial help is available through the Merck Vaccine Assistance Program. To be eligible, the income guidelines are as follows: an individual making less than $43,320 or a couple making less than $58,280. 
  4. FAN Softball: The Family Action Network softball team will be holding its preseason meeting Tuesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Black Horse Tavern. Anyone interested in playing can attend the meeting.
