Today is Wednesday, Jan. 12. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Blizzard: Winchester is expected to get , according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are supposed to stay in the mid-20s, and the snow is expected to stop around 1 a.m.
  2. Closings: Winchester public schools are closed today, and all high school sporting events have been postponed. The is also closed.
  3. Emergency parking ban: The town has until 7 p.m. today. All cars parked on the street will be ticketed or towed.
  4. Vinson-Owen override passes: Residents Tuesday in favor of building a new Vinson-Owen Elementary School. Overall, 37 percent or 5,147 out of the 14,041 registered voters in Winchester made their way to the polls.
  5. One year since Haiti earthquake: One year ago today, a 7.0 earthquake devastated the island nation of Haiti.
