Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 17. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Sunny and cold: Despite the sun, temperatures aren't supposed to reach 20 degrees today in Winchester, according to the National Weather Service.
  2. Closings: Town offices and the will be closed in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
  3. Sachems hoops: The fourth-place Winchester High girls’ basketball team (6-4) will travel to second-place Woburn (8-1) for a crucial league game at 1 p.m., while the second-place boys’ basketball team will follow with an equally important game at third-place Woburn at 2:30 p.m.
  4. MLK Day Celebration: The and the Family Action Network are hosting an MLK Day Celebration with West African drumming and dance, art displays, crafts and a book fair from 3 to 5 p.m. in Metcalf Hall at the , at the corner of Main Street and Mystic Valley Parkway.   5. “I Have a Dream” speech: Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day in honor of the late civil rights leader’s birthday on Jan. 15. King gave his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech on Aug. 28, 1963, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Listen to it here.
