Today is Thursday, Jan. 5. Here are five things you need to know.

  1. Little warmer: After a winter blast the last two days, the weather should start to get a little warmer today. According to the National Weather Service, the high for Thursday is expected to be 38 degrees. It should be mostly sunny throughout the day with wind gusts as high as 22 mph. By Thursday night, temperatures could drop to 23 degrees.
  2. Town Election: Looking to get involved in town government? The Board of Selectmen, School Committee and Planning Board will each have two seats up for re-election. Interested candidates can pick up nomination papers at the Town Clerk’s office.
  3. Winter Farmers Market: Beginning Jan. 14 and running to March 17, will be hosting an at its Winchester location. The event, similar to the , will run every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  4. Census: Annual will be mailed to Winchester residents during the week of January 9. All households must respond to the mailing by February 15. In the mailings will be Transfer Station permits and information on the fee increases.
  5. Winter Parking: The winter parking ban is an effect. Vehicles parked on the street between 1 and 7 a.m. are subject to fines. Any vehicles parked on the street during a snow emergency may be fined and towed.
