Today is Friday, July 8. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Prepare for Showers: The weather should be cooler today, but there is a chance of some showers. According to the National Weather Service, the high for Friday is 77 degrees. There’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., continuing Friday night, before the clouds move out Saturday morning.
  2. Highway Work This weekend, the bridge on I-93 North over Webster Street and the approach spans on the bridge on I-93 North over the Mystic River . The work will take place between 8 p.m., Friday, June 10 and 5 a.m. Monday, June 13. The highway will be reduced to two lanes during construction, so expect delays.
  3. Road Construction: The will begin paving Lockeland Road on Tuesday, July 5. The construction will last two weeks from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The DPW is informing residents that they should expect delays and recommends drivers to seek alternate routes.
  4. Stepping Down: After serving the town for a number of years, Department of Public Works Director, Ed Grant is retiring.
