Today is Tuesday, March 1. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Get ready for the sun: Well, it looks like the rain and snow have stopped for now. According to the National Weather Service, the high for Tuesday is expected to be 37 degrees. While that may not be as warm as you were hoping, the sun is expected to shine throughout the day.
  2. Sports Illustrated Coming to Town: Ed Swift, Senior Writer for Sports Illustrated, will be stopping by the tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This year is the 50th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Maribel Vinson Owen and her daughters, Laurence and Maribel, along with 16 members of the U.S. figure skating team. Swift will be talking about the . Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:30 pm.  
  3. Gala for Hope: A , will be held on Saturday, April 9 at 7 p.m. This semi-formal gala will be held at   Tickets are $75 and include cash bar, hors d’oeuvres, a live jazz band and a silent auction.
  4. Winchester AWARE: The town of Winchester recently set up a new reverse 9-1-1 notification system called The system will alert residents to a variety of situations that could arise in town – flooding, no parking, street closures and more. Winchester Fire Chief, John Nash, urges residents to sign up for the system.  
  5. In case you missed it: Winchester Football Coach,. The school plans on hiring a new coach by the end of the month and, according to Athletic Director Brian Carroll, the new hire will be someone from outside the community.
