Today is Wednesday, May 23, 2012. Here are five things you need to know about:

1. Possible Thunder Storms?: The National Weather Service predicts slight chance of showers then a chance of thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Patchy fog before before 9 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy with a high near 73. In the evening, there will be a slight chance of showers before 11 p.m. with a low of 58.

2. Memorial Day Celebration at the Jenks Center: On Wednesday May 23 at 10:45am in the Jenks Room, Margie Labedz, President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, will present a program honoring our Veterans. There will be a Candlelight Remembrance Ceremony and Poems. The guest speaker will be State Representative, Jason Lewis. Ida Gillotte will play the piano. Everyone is invited and we especially hope our Veterans will come. At 10:45 a.m. at , 109 Skillings Rd.

3. FAN Weekly Playgroup: Please join us every Wednesday anytime between 10 and 11:30 am. There are lots of toys to play with and a group of parents and caregivers ready for good conversation. Please note that the playgroup follows the public school calendar and does not meet on Wednesdays when school is closed for holidays, inclement weather, etc. at 10 a.m. at , 21 Church St.

4. The Francis P. Mary & Mary J. Brennan Memorial Lecture: The Annual Brennan Lecture, sponsored by the Winchester Seniors Association and the Winchester Council on Aging, will be held on Wednesday, May 23 at 7 p.m. The topic of Dr. Sol Gittleman’s lecture is “Every Four Years: Presidential Elections and American History.” Coffee will be served prior to the presentation at 6:30 p.m. at , 109 Skillings Rd.

5. EPA says Mystic River Water Quality Poor: Mother Earth and Father Sky aren't going to be too happy when they see the Mystic River's most recent .
