Today is Wednesday, Nov. 2. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Still fall: The sun will be out today and the weather should be cool. According to the National Weather Service, the high for Wednesday is 53 degrees. It should sunny and clear throughout the day with temperatures dropping to 34 degrees by Wednesday night.
  2. Autumn at Long Pond: Residents can take a walk to Long Pond searching for late-blooming flowers and plants still in fruit. The walk will focus on plant identification as well as fun and interesting natural history. You can meet at the Long Pond parking lot on South Border Road in Winchester.   3. Mountain Climbing: Climber and guide Craig John of Portland, Maine, will give a presentation about climbing and guiding around the world at the Winchester Public Library on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. The talk will focus on his ascent of the seldom-climbed North Ridge of Mt. Everest while covering some of his other expeditions to mountains such as Kilimanjaro, Denali and Cho Oyu, to name a few. Craig will talk about what it took to accomplish his goal of climbing Everest as well as what it was like to finally stand there. This program is presented by the Friends of the Winchester Public Library with the support of the John & Mary Murphy Educational Foundation. The program is free to the public.   4. Microbew tasting: There will be a microbrew tasting hosted by Colonial Package Store and the American Legion (Lexington Street) from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 194 Lexington St., Woburn. You can try the best that local and national microbrewers have to offer while enjoying some hor's d'oeuvres. Tickets costs $25 with all proceeds going directly to the Boys & Girls Club of Woburn. A cash bar will also be available for after 9:30 p.m. and prior to 9:30 p.m. for those interested in something other than the available microbrews.
