Today is Thursday, October 6. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. Another cool one: Another perfect fall day. According to the National Weather Service, the high for Thursday will be 61 degrees. It’s expected to be mostly sunny throughout the day. By Thursday night, temperatures are expected to drop to 36 degrees.
  2. Pumpkin Patch: The of Winchester is holding a on Saturday Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday Oct. 9 from noon to 3 p.m.  The fair will feature a variety of games for children, face painting, pumpkin crafts, balloons,and refreshments.  The Pumpkin Patch will be open for business selling pumpkins of all sizes, gourds and seasonal decorations.  The patch is open from now through Halloween Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.  Proceeds from the fair and patch will benefit the Native Americans who grew the pumpkins, the Woburn Council of Social Concern, the McCall Middle School, and the missions of the Second Congregational Church.  
  3. Water main flushing: Beginning Monday, water main flushing of Winchester’s middle low water system will be taking place during the day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in certain neighborhoods. Water main flushing signs will be posted in the areas to be flushed. The middle low water system consists of streets west of Washington Street, Main Street and Grove Street, and streets east of Cambridge Street. During flushing, residents should refrain from using water for drinking, dishwashing, and laundry as some discoloration of water may occur. If you experience discolored water, let the cold water run until it clears. If the problem continues, please call the Water and Sewer Department at 781-721-7109.
  4. Spelling Bee: is a comedy about the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship. The show begins this Friday at the at 7 p.m.
