Former 'Law and Order' Writer Returns to the Courtroom

Pamela Wechsler, a Tufts grad, will join Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone's office as an Assistant District Attorney.

After spending some time in Hollywood to write crime dramas, Pamela Wechsler was hired to be a county prosecutor for the Middlsex District Attorney’s Office.

Wechsler will serve as an assistant district attorney in Middlesex County Superior Court in Lowell as the newest member of Middlesex County Attorney Gerry Leone's prosecution team, Leone announced in a press release Tuesday.

The Boston native and Tufts University graduate has 15 years of experience in criminal justice. But the last few years saw Wechsler working on crime dramas.

Most recently, Wechsler, who graduated from the Boston University School of Law, worked as a writer and consultant for television and movie crime dramas, including three Law and Order series, Conviction, and Canterbury’s Law.

“Pam has a rich history as a prosecutor at the county, state and federal levels and we could not be more pleased to have her as part of our team,” District Attorney Gerry Leone said. “But her desire to protect and serve real victims and speak for them brought her back to the courtroom and prosecution.”

Her career in criminal justice began at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office where she was an ADA for 10 years prosecuting hundreds of cases, including homicides, sexual assaults, gang violence and child abuse cases.  Wechsler later worked as an Assistant Attorney General for the Attorney General’s Office where she was Chief of Litigation for the AGO’s Criminal Bureau.

Wechsler also worked on the federal level as a trial attorney for the United States Department of Justice in Washington, DC where she prosecuted white-collar crime for the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section.
