Gluten/Wheat Free Bakery Coming to Arlington and More Nearby Bites

We know Winchester residents don’t only stay in town when they want a night out and a break from cooking. 

Restaurant coming and goings, new businesses and the best dishes and recipes are among the items that have appeared on Patch sites around the region over the past month.

Below is a look at the restaurant and food stories covered in the past month.

Arlington

Gluten/Wheat Free Bakery Coming Soon to East Arlington

A gluten/wheat free bakery is moving into the old Barismo spot in East Arlington. Something Sweet Without Wheat could open at 169 Mass. Ave. as soon as December according to Teresa Fiore, who will manage the shop. The family owned and operated specialty bakery, which was started by two Stoneham sisters just over two years ago, is based out of a commercial kitchen on 6th Road in Woburn. Up until now, the bakery mostly wholesaled its goods to local markets and food stores or sold them by phone or online. The East Arlington location will be the bakery's first retail-only operation.

Barismo, the tiny East Arlington coffee shop known for its high-quality brews, is moving two doors down to a bigger location, according to its blog. The shop’s new spot at 171 Massachusetts Ave. is just a laundromat away from its current digs (169 Massachusetts Ave.) and will be large enough to handle seating, according to the post.

Lexington

Vine Brook Tavern Hosts Grand Opening Party

Vine Brook Tavern  but had its "grand opening" party scheduled on Nov. 28. According to Marcus Palmer, the establishment’s owner/operator, Vine Brook Tavern’s menu, like its name, respects American tradition with a bit of a modern twist. And the drink menu includes a selection of 24 beers and 24 wines, along with some signature cocktails. Chef Chris Frothingham’s menu includes regional, yet updated takes on roasted chicken, steaks and fish. In the case of the meatloaf, for instance, there’s a crust of porcini mushrooms.

Medford

Stop and Shop to Lease Medford Foodmaster Location

The Foodmaster on Salem Street in Medford is closing, but there are already plans in place to open a new supermarket at its storefront. Supermarket chain Stop and Shop plans to aquire the lease at 471 Salem St. before the end of 2012 and then open a store there, according to a press release from Stop and Shop.

Somerville

Burger Dive Opens in Assembly Row

Burger Dive, a new restaurant by the same group that owns Papagayo, Sip Wine Bar and other restaurants in the Boston area, opened in Assembly Square over Thanksgiving weekend, according to the restaurant's website.

Restaurant Update: More Details—and Photos—From Soon-to-Open Bronwyn

Bronwyn, a new restaurant by the folks behind Cambridge's T.W. Food, is expected to open in Union Square this winter. (Boston Eater called it one of "Boston's most anticipated restaurant openings.") Tim Wiechmann, the chef and owner, along with his wife, Bronwyn, has been testing recipes, and the dishes and drinks will come from German, Austria, Alto Adige (a.k.a. South Tyrol, in the Italian Alps) and Eastern Europe.

Update: Pinkberry Not Coming to Davis Square

Pinkberry will not be coming to Davis Square, at least not in the near future. According to planning staff with the Zoning Board of Appeals, Pinkberry withdrew its application at a Board meeting in November. It seems the Board was not inclined to grant permission to the frozen yogurt giant, so Pinkberry withdrew its application before it was officially denied.
