Hurricane Sandy Update in Winchester, No School Tuesday

Here is the latest on Hurricane Sandy for Winchester residents.

  • No school Tuesday: (Updated, 7:15 a.m.) Winchester schools announced at 6:35 a.m. that there will not be any school on Tuesday. Originally, school was delayed by two hours. Superintendent William McAlduff canceled school early this morning. "I'm sorry for the confusion," he said in a voicemail to parents. "However, I learned that the work that was expected to be done overnight, was not. Safety continues to an issue."
  • Latest forecast: Hurricane Sandy weakened in the Boston area Monday night and will continue to do so into Tuesday morning, according to the latest forecast.
  • Selectmen Meeting: The Board of Selectmen scheduled for Monday, Oct. 29 has been postponed to Thursday, Nov. 1. 
  • Town Hall Offices, libraries, recreation department open Tuesday: The town buildings will be open regular hours.
  • MBTA is back on scheduleAs of 5 a.m. Tuesday, most MBTA service has resumed with residual storm-related delays. MBTA is urging customers to leave additional time for their commute and expect delays due to storm impacts. 
  • Charging stations in Arlington: Arlington will open three locations where residents without power can charge cell phones and other mobile devices Tuesday. Robbins Library, 700 Mass. Ave. (10 a.m. to 9 p.m.), Fox Library, 175 Mass. Ave. (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Senior Center, 27 Maple St. (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
