MBTA Targets Spring Completion Date For Wedgemere Station Project

A reader recently submitted a "You Ask, Patch Answers" question about where things stand with the Wedgemere Station project. So, here's what we found out.

The final phase of the Wedgemere Station project is expected to be finished this spring, according to an MBTA spokeswoman.

"The accessible ramps, mini-high platforms, and accessible parking spaces opened to patrons on (Feb). 1," wrote MBTA spokeswoman Kelly Smith in an email to Winchester Patch. "The station is now fully accessible. The remaining work entails replacement of the platform edges at the southern end of the station and installation of landscaping."

"The project is now transitioning into the final phase of construction, in which the platform edges will be replaced at the southern end of the station. This is the area on the platforms within the current construction zone," added Smith.

While the original completion date was February 2012, the Wedgemere Station project is now expected to be finished by May 31, according to Smith.

The MBTA was expected to spend $12 to $15 million to renovate the station, while the town of Winchester would not be paying for the improvements at Wedgemere, according to then Selectman Roger Berman in a previous Winchester Patch report.
