Police Logs for May 21-22

Monday, May 21 

8:48 a.m.: An Oldsmobile Alero took an improper left turn into the Parkview Condominiums parking lot and struck a concrete traffic pillar at the front entrance gate. The vehicle sustained frontend damage. Mal’s Towing towed the car, and the driver was taken to . The driver was issued a citation for failure to keep right of traffic.

1:36 p.m.: Someone stole a backpack out of an unlocked vehicle at 7 Sheridan St. Friday night. Inside the backpack was an Apple MacBook Pro with a charger valued at $1,200 and a carton of Marlboro Blue Cigarettes valued at $82.

3 p.m.: A person came into the lobby of the to report a lost passport. The afflicted party had contacted the Italian Consulate, who told the party that they needed a police report in order to issue a new passport.

8:06 p.m.: A person came into the police station lobby to report a stolen cell phone. The investigation is ongoing.

Tuesday, May 22

10:34 a.m.: There are reports of a disturbance in the Winchester Hospital parking lot at 166 Swanton St. A man flagged down the responding officer and pointed out an individual stating, “This guy just slashed my tires.”  Prior to the police being called, the afflicted party, a delivery driver for a medical supply delivery service, went into the Winchester Hospital for a moment and came out to find a man standing near the delivery van. When the deliveryman exited the hospital, the man near his van ran off. Two female hospital employees of the hospital said, “That guy just slashed your tires.”

The deliveryman ran after the fleeing man who was headed west on Swanton Street. The man stopped behind a bush in front of 151 Swanton St. and began to run again. At this point, the deliveryman flagged down the arriving officer.  When the deliveryman and the officer walked over to the bush, they found a black folding knife on the ground. The officer observed a small slit in the van tire consistent with the size of the blade.

When the officer asked the man who had dropped the knife what had happened and read him his Miranda Rights, the man stated that he wanted to speak with his attorney. At this point, the officer put Charles Cohen, 67, of Medford under arrest. Cohen was charged with malicious destruction of property.

2:11 p.m.: A hit and run was reported near . An Audi parked legally was struck by a Ford driven by a middle-aged, white female with blonde/white hair. The Ford drove directly into the parked Audi, backed up and took off. Investigation is ongoing.

5:56 p.m.: A secretary at Winchester Hospital at 955 Main St. received a phone call from a relative of a patient. The relative was upset with the treatment his or her sister was receiving and told the secretary that if the sister were to die in the care of the hospital, the caller would show up with guns. The party was contacted by the authorities and denied ever making such a threat or owning a gun. The matter has been documented but no further actions were taken.
