Resident Receives Education Award from New England Wild Flower Society

The award is given to an individual for original and significant work that promotes public understanding and appreciation of North American plants.

New England Wild Flower Society awarded Roland “Boot” Boutwell of Winchester with the 2012 Education Award on Monday, Nov. 26. 

The award is given to an individual or group for original and significant work that promotes public understanding and appreciation of North American plants. The award was presented at the Society’s recent Annual Meeting.   

Boutwell was selected for his commitment to both young and old as he shares the joys of the natural world through wildflower identification, historical and natural history, and lore. He is always cultivating a strong connection between his students and native plants.

A high point of the fall season each year, New England Wild Flower Society confers awards to one state winner from each state in New England, as well as awards for conservation, education, and public and private landscapes. 

Awardees demonstrate creative vision and exceptional achievement in furthering the Society's conservation goals.
